Historical Sketch

Our ABS Precept, "But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith" (Jude 20, NRSV)

Alliance Bible Seminary was established in 1899 in Wuzhou of Guangxi province, China, by Dr. Robert Glover. Since then the Seminary has produced over 2,000 graduates who spread all over the world in the service of our Lord.

With the able and dedicated leadership of His servants, Ms. Amy Law, Dr. Robert Jaffray, Rev. Leo T. Chao, and Dr. William C. Newbern, God directed the work of Alliance Bible Seminary in times of peace and through the fires of war.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Renamed as Alliance Bible Seminary

1958
The first Bachelor degree was issued.

1975
Christian and Missionary Alliance Mission decided to transfer the leadership of the Seminary to local Chinese Christians under the auspices of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Union of Hong Kong, with Dr. Philip Teng assuming the responsibility of the president.

1996
The Pastoral Institute was established.
The Master of Theology program was launched.
The Pastoral Journal began publication.

1997
The Master of Christian Studies (Part-time) program was launched

1999
ABS Centennial Anniversary.

2000
New Era
The Centennial Complex was completed.

2001
Dedication of the Au Shue Hung Memorial Chapel.

2005
Dr. Leung Ka-lun was inaugurated as the Seminary's thirteenth president.
City Campus site at Wanchai was bought.
Department of Pastoral and Professional Continuing Education was established.
The Lay Leadership Training Department was established.

2006
City Campus was inaugurated.

2007
Simultaneous Video Conference System was employed in teaching sessions.

2008
Campus extension - Siu Yee Hall and Timothy Hall.
The Master of Ministry (Putonghua) program was launched.
The Doctor of Philosophy program was launched.

The Christianity and Chinese Culture Research Centre was founded.

Jian Dao: A Journal of Bible and Theology began publication.

1995
The Doctor of Ministry program was launched.
